Nathan Manion

B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.

Founder, Director, Lead Consultant

Nathan Manion is the Founder, Director, and Senior Consultant at Greenscale Inc., a sustainability consulting company he founded in January 2021. He received his Ph.D. from Queen’s University in the Renewable Energy Development and Implementation (REDi) lab in the Department of Geography and Urban Planning, where he specialized in life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology and focused on the sustainability of bioenergy feedstock production in Ontario.

Nathan’s research and work specialize in using life cycle assessment (LCA) as a tool to evaluate the whole environmental impact of emerging projects, products, technologies, and services across a range of sectors. He has worked with a range of clients including federal and provincial ministries, post-secondary research and education, private industry, not-for-profits, and international development organizations. Over the last 20 years, his research and consulting work with those clients has included:

  • Environmental remediation in the Canadian Arctic
  • Brownfield contamination in urban environments
  • Bioenergy for industry
  • Sustainable forestry and forest management
  • Ecosystem service valuation
  • Green building designs
  • Climate change planning for communities and businesses
